I'm so mad I wrote my email address wrong so I have to ask this question again.I had firefox 4 and was happy with it.a couple of days ago I tried to enter firefox and it said it was updating itself then the update failed. so now when i tried to use it it reported, for lack of a better term firefox was open but it did not appear on the screen, it simply was not there, I had to restart my computer to close the program. this time the same thing happened it "opened" but did not appear. so I uninstalled and reinstalled it, first with files, bookmarks, etc. intact. same problem. So I uninstalled it completely when I went to look for it all I could find was firefox 5, fine. except firefox 5 keeps FREEZING REPEATEDLY. YES ALL MY PLUGINS ARE UP TO DATE. iI figured I would just go back to firefox 4 which I was happy with and worked perfectly FINE. cAN'T FIND THE DOWNLOAD FOR IT. I'm thinking now I'll have to use internet explorer, which annoys me because I don't like internet explorer and felt firefox was safer. but I'm sick of every 10 minutes or on a random page it freezes and I have to constantly close the program. I was HAPPY with firefox 4. But i'm ready to uninstall 5.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Dear gilmershanetta, I know that you can find the Firefox 4 version at FileHippo.com. The new FF5 is at the top of the first page. Click that and the next page has all the previous versions. I use the free RevoUninstaller for most programs, then CCleaner to sweep up, then Defraggler to neaten it all, then re-install the version 4. I hope this was helpful. Best to you, ratguard.

Quite honestly, if you follow ratguard's advice you're liable to lose your Firefox personal data, plus downloading Firefox (even an older version) from a non-official source carries a certain amount of risk. Every version of Firefox that has ever been made is still available from Mozilla, going all the way back to the Phoenix 0.1 version which was the beginning of what is now called Firefox.
