Firefox is 'unstable' after a recent update
This happened once before - then cleared after the next update. Now, after a recent update, the browser display is unstable again. Not a problem with any other browser - so it's NOT the computer. Any suggestions ?
Thanx, Dennis

Hi Dennis,
If the display becomes unstable only in Firefox after an update, one thing worth checking is whether hardware acceleration is involved. Firefox uses your graphics hardware to render pages, and a problem with this can sometimes cause flickering, visual glitches or other display issues.
To test this, open the Firefox menu, select Settings, then General. Scroll down to Performance, untick “Use recommended performance settings”, and then untick “Use hardware acceleration when available”. Restart Firefox and see whether the display is stable.
If that doesn't help, could you describe what you mean by “unstable”? For example, does the screen flicker, do parts of webpages disappear, or does the whole browser window become distorted? It would also help to know your operating system and Firefox version.
That should help narrow down whether this is a graphics-related issue or something introduced by the recent update.
I have the same problem after updating to 157.0.1. I unticked “Use recommended performance settings”, and then unticked “Use hardware acceleration when available," then closed and restarted Firefox.
It is like Firfefox is scolling up and down or resizing. I also made sure zoom was set to 100%. Fore the time being I am using Edge because the constant screen jitter is too annoying.
under Win10 Firefox sometimes will freeze up, can't even close it, must force power off to restart. I'd rather not begin using any of the google browsers and will NEVER open ms. Any ideas ???? maxx
Hi granitemesa, you might want to start a new question since that sounds like a different problem. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop
In the event that you need to shut down Firefox and it's nonresponsive, one option might be the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). When memory is tight, this could take several minutes to populate. Then you should be able to right-click > End Task on Firefox.
