problem with Thunderbird for Android.

ciesielski.finanse

I am experiencing a problem with Thunderbird for Android.

My setup:

  • Smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (SM-S918B)
  • Android version: Android 16
  • Computer: Windows PC
  • Desktop email client: Thunderbird for Windows (latest version)
  • Email accounts are configured and working correctly on the Windows version of Thunderbird.

The issue concerns the Android application. Despite using the same email address, login credentials and server settings that work correctly on my Windows computer, I am unable to properly configure or synchronize the account in Thunderbird for Android.

The desktop version connects without any issues, while the Android application either rejects the settings or fails to synchronize properly.

I have already:

  • verified the email address and password,
  • confirmed that the same credentials work on the Windows version,
  • checked the incoming and outgoing server settings,
  • reinstalled the Android application,
  • ensured that the device has an active internet connection.

Could you please advise what additional steps I should take to resolve the issue?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi

Are you able to provide the below configuration information. This will help diagnose why your account fails to connect to the server.

For example, The mobile app doesn't support oAuth + pop3 protocol which the desktop version does.

  1. What does the error message say exactly when the connection is rejected?
  2. Who is your email provider?
  3. What connection type are you using (Imap or pop3)?
  4. What authentication method are you using (Oauth 2.0, App password, account username/password)?
  5. What server name and port number is being used for Imap/pop3 and SMTP?

You can find these settings under:

  1. Settings > account name > fetching mail > incoming server.
  2. Settings > account name > sending mail > outgoing server.

Good morning,

I'm not sure if we're understanding each other correctly. The error occurs in the app. When I try to scan a QR code, the frame where I can place the square with the code doesn't appear after zooming in. A photo is attached.

Hi @ciesielski.finanse

It's normally sufficient for the QR code to successfully scan when visible within the camera viewfinder. You don't normally need to zoom or align the image.

There has been a number of users reporting a similar issue. A bug report is open for this on github. You should add your feedback to that ticket linked below.

https://github.com/thunderbird/thunderbird-android/issues/9383

In the meantime, you can add your accounts using Thunderbird androids setup wizard rather scanning a QR code.
