requests email password but next button doesn't work
email not working - it requests the password but the Next button doesn't work, and then when I exit it says could not connect to server looked at forums but can't find help (and don't know how to update if that is what is required) calendar seems to be working ok I did change my gmail password recently but don't know if that has caused the problem thank you for any suggestions/help ....

There was a problem in a previous version of Thunderbird. Your comment that you don't know how to update, seems to indicate that you still might be using such an old version.
Go to Help > About and check which version you are using. This should be 52.4.0… If not, click the button "Check for updates"
