I thought firebox was free...but have been presented with pay plan
Having downloaded what i thought was a free email system.....got directed to having to pay money..so why did this happen

Firefox is free. There are shady companies that repackage Firefox and change for it. This is a scam. If you have paid any money you should issue a chargeback on the card.
You should uninstall that version of Firefox and download Firefox from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and re-install that version.
Also, the Firefox browser doesn't include any email service. You can use Firefox to access many free and paid email services, but those are offered by other companies.
Mozilla, the maker of Firefox, also offers Thunderbird, a stand-alone email program. But Thunderbird does not include any email service, either, you would connect it to an account you set up with another company.
If you need a free email account, the big names are Yahoo, Microsoft (Outlook.com) and Google (Gmail).
