Facebook completely inaccessible on Firefox
Yesterday, Facebook started to take longer and longer to load a page. Whenever I tried to post something and it took forevahhhh for it to show up on the timeline. I had to reload and repost several times since yesterday. All other websites are loading up just fine, but Facebook has taken as long as 30 seconds, sometimes even more before it refreshes a page.
Then.. it got worse. All I could see was the Facebook logo in the middle of the screen and nothing else.
Then it got even worse. As of this morning, I can't even get any results when I google Facebook! I put Facebook into the search bar, click return -- and nothing happens, absolutely nothing.
I'm not seeing any problems with any other website. I have already restarted my modem. I have already cleared out the cache and the cookies. I have restarted my laptop three times. I even looked up Downdetector, but there aren't any problems with the website in general.
Those are all the solutions I've found when searching about this, but the problem is only becoming worse, with everything I try. If there's something I need to change in Facebook settings, I can't do that, because now Facebook is completely inaccessible.
This is only happening on my laptop. Mobile is fine.

Users with Bitdefender security software installed may experience problems loading websites, particularly Facebook.com. We are working on a workaround, but as a temporary mitigation, disabling Bitdefender or turning off its traffic filtering features may resolve the issue.
I just logged into Facebook on Chrome and DuckDuckGo with no problems at all.
This is a FIREFOX problem.
Haven't I said that? This is a conflict between Firefox and Bitdefender.

I don't want to disable my internet security software completely, neither do I want it to stop warning me about suspicious websites. I followed Bitdefender's instructions on how to add a specific exception for Facebook.
But that didn't help. I still can't even get any results when I google Facebook. The little ball in the taskbar just keeps bouncing back and forth with no results. Totally stuck.
Again, this is just a problem on Firefox. Currently I can get to Facebook on other browsers, but not Firefox.

And I already said: I'm not going to completely disable my internet software.
I understand that this is a conflict, but suggesting that I shut down my internet security is not a feasible solution.
Thank you! The workarounds I see there are unfortunately not understandable (therefore not feasible) for a layperson. Years ago, when I was married to someone getting a doctorate in AI at MIT, I used to joke about his friends not being able to conceive of a brain that wasn't already their own. Occupational hazard ;-)
I would like instructions on how to implement any of the following:
1- "Hack that worked for me: about:config, search for security.tls.version.max and change it from 4 to 3. This worked for a day, then got reset back to 4 the next day, so I had to re-apply the fix."
2- these settings allow Facebook to load normally: security.tls.version.max=4 network.http.http3.enable=false
Could you translate, please?
BTW, I'm not going to try to build a browser with a patch as someone else suggested, LOL.
If those suggestions require computer expertise above my pay grade, I'll have to just go to Facebook using other browsers until this is solved.
Any idea when that's likely to happen? :-)
Just enter about:config in the address bar and hit Enter. You'll find there a field to search for preferences, everything there is quite straightforward.
We want to release a fix on Tuesday, April 28.

Straightforward, really?
The only thing I see when I put that into the address bar is a warning about changing settings and a blank search bar for preferences with no other explanation. So... What preferences am I searching for...? I have no idea what settings I'm supposed to be changing. No clue whatsoever and you certainly didn't spell that out, quite the opposite.
Telling a layperson that something utterly baffling is "quite straightforward" accomplishes nothing but demonstrating your Great Expertise --greater than mine. Well, whoopee and congratulations for that.
I think I'll just keep using Duck Duck Go for Facebook, until the fix is implemented on Tuesday. Thanks anyway.
You've already received names of these preferences, for instance security.tls.version.max with default value 4' to be changed to 3.
