Having the same problem mentioned here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/970996

Every three days or so my cache suddenly has started to empty itself. History and cookies remain. No idea why this started as haven't changed any settings.

Make sure you not running Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

If you not using Private Browsing Mode

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > History>
  • Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history":
  • Select: [x] Accept Cookies from sites
    • Accept third party cookies: "From Visited"
  • Keep until "They Expire"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Clear history when Firefox closes"

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

I reset it and will let you know in 3 days or so.

That didn't fix it as it emptied itself again.

Did you check for any software then clears files in the Firefox profile folder on a scheduled base?

Note that Firefox might clear the cache on startup if it find the cache dirty bit set indicating that something went wrong with writing the cache index to disk the previous time Firefox was closed.
So you may have to check if Firefox closes properly.

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

I don't use anything that clears firefox on a regular basis and it's only the cache that gets emptied as history and cookies remain.

No further options seeing none of the above has worked?

Does this also happen if you close and restart Firefox immediately after giving it enough time to close properly and no processes are visible in the task manager?

Or does it only happen after you reboot the computer?

more options

The only time it happens is about every three days. I turn off my notebook every night and turn it on every morning. Every third morning for the last month or so the cache is empty when I start Firefox but it wasn't the night before when I turned it off.

It does not happen at any other time when I reboot my computer.

I do not have anything scheduled to run every third day and as I said this has only started occurring in the last month or so and I have changed no settings on my Notebook and have not installed or removed any programs.

Still happening. Maybe I'll have to ditch Firefox if there is no fix.

I completely uninstalled Firefox and deleted all profiles etc etc and it still happens.

I did notice that it still seems to be there though but it's called Cache.trash

more options

Firefox renames the Cache folder to Cache.trash if it detects a problem with the cache because the cache dirty flag hadn't been cleared the last time Firefox was closed indicating that the cache index files that are kept in memory during the session hadn't been written properly to disk.

Make sure that you give Firefox enough time to close if you close Firefox to shutdown the computer.

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

Tried that and after about 5 days it did it again.

It lasted 9 days this time before doing it again. Still no solution.

Still having this problem. I'm going to have to change browsers as I can't put up with this and nobody has a fix.

Did you try new profile?

I completely uninstalled Firefox and removed everything. I then downloaded it again and installed add ons from scratch and it still happens.
