Do you lose other personal data like history as well?

Does Firefox crash?

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open the crash reports page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

Try to use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

No i don't lose anything else except cache. i always close Mozilla through exit.No it doesn't crash

Firefox can invalidate the cache if Firefox didn't close properly the previous time and the cache is still marked as dirty when Firefox is started the next time (this dirty bit gets reset when the cache index files have been saved to disk).

i never had this problem before , even if firefox crashed it always retained my cache, all this auto cache delete happened after i updated to Mozilla firefox 23.0.1.... so for now i removed this version and got Mozilla Nightly 26.0a1... it seems to have no problem for now...

Is the disk cache actually used if you check that on the about:cache page?

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Cache because Firefox will disable the disk cache in such a case

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

see the attachments ... it doesn't clear my cache everytime i close firefox , its clears once in 2 or 3 days or whenever it feels like

The first screenshot indicates that the disk cache is using 145 MB. If the cache is cleared then this will be 0 KB/MB.

i know do you think i'm illiterate??? i sent that to see if any setting should be changed , it was 300+ cache until it auto cleared recently , i started loading again , and in couple of days it will auto delete again, it is happening again and again.... if you don't know the solution then say so...

I've had this happen at least once earlier this year. Cleared up by itself somehow. Just updated recently to FF 24 and for the past couple of days , the cache is again clearing itself daily. Seems to happen each evening as everything works normally during the day. Not being able to get broadband and having to use dialup makes it horrendous.

No changes were made in the settings in FF recently , so the issue has to be coming from FF.

There are a few possibilities as already posted that can cause this.

  • the cache is cleared manually or automatically in Firefox
  • Firefox invalidates the cache because of possible corruption (dirty flag found set on start).
This can be caused by Firefox not closing properly (hang) or possible crashes (about:crashes)
  • external cleanup software cleans up the cache (for the location on disk, see about:cache) and possibly other personal Firefox data
This is a likely cause if it happens regularly every few days and not after a (or each) Firefox restart.

That is the problem - Firefox is clearing the cache automatically all of a sudden and doing it daily. Firefox has not hung or crashed and the only external cleanup software on the system is CCleaner and that does not do any cleaning unless I tell it to. I have tried clicking on the Override Cache Management and setting a limit , but it still clears daily without even getting close to the limit.

You can check the compatibility.ini file in the profile folder to see if it has a InvalidateCaches=1 line (I don't know if this affects the disk cache apart from other caches like extensions and Firefox components).

for now i tried something and it seems to hold for about a week and continuing ... don't check the option override automatic cache management it will only store 350mb of cache and not more sometimes it will reduce to 348 and 350 vice versa.... but in override automatic cache option make it max 1024mb and uncheck that option... i will see if it retains for a while...but u can try

Strange thing is that without anything being changed , the problem went away all by itself. Only lasted 3 days or so. I've had this happen at least a couple times before with the same results.
