When I open a new tab, the cursor doesn't go automatically into the navigation field anymore, since I have reinstalled Firefox yesterday. Is there a fix?

Chosen solution

I have solved it.

I installed mutorrent, which in return installed "Safe Protect" from "Conduit" which messed up my Internet Browser Settings.

I've deinstalled it and everything turned back to normal, when I open a new tab, the cursor is automatically in the addressbar (ie. it is highlighted).

Thanks for your time.

Hello Beemspam01, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:
FirefoxSafeMode

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Thank you.

I tried safe mode, everything is the same (I mean if I open a new tab, the address bar isn't highlighted).

Do you have google.co.uk in your browser.newtab.url preference ?

No. I don't. When I open a new tab I get the 9 links in the grid.

Did you remove your personal data when uninstalling and have created a new default profile folder?

It is possible that you previously had an extension that set focus to the location bar.

I didn't have this addon. Neither do I have it now.

When I start Firefox I get to the very same page (the 3x3 grid with the 9 links) but the address bar is immediately highlighted.

When I open a new tab it isn't.

I probably did delete my old personal data (that was the reason I reinstalled Firefox in the first place, because I installed a free program and it messed up my Internet Browser preferences in IE, Firefox and Chrome).

I use Windows 7, I've deleted my Local, my Temp etc. Files, uninstalled Firefox, deleted the Mozilla Folder and reinstalled everything (Firefox and his addons).
