I am using Windows 7 and no matter what I try, I can not delete the history/search on the left of the screen? Even if I hi-lite and delete, it always comes back?
Have tried all the tips from troubleshooting. Private Browsing, checking and unchecking of boxes. It used to clear every time I closed Firefox? I don't normally open this or use it for links since I have most of what I use under Bookmarks...Thanks

You can toggle the History sidebar with Ctrl+H and the Bookmarks sidebar with Ctrl+B
- View > Sidebar
Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.

I'm not have any problem bringing up the history window on the left. I want to delete all the entries there! There are 139 links, some of them are very old now that I look again. I want them gone. I have tried everything I know of. Thanks again!
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
I pulled up; 'about:config' and found 'browser.history_expire_days.mirror' and it says 180 days. Is there any reason I can't change this to one (1) or zero (0) days? Also if I uninstall Firefox and reinstall, will I loose my Bookmarks? Thanks again!
The prefs browser.history_expire_days and browser.history_expire_days_min are removed in Firefox 4+ versions and replaced with a single places.history.enabled pref to remember history or disable the history.
look at:
- Expire history by days: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/expire-history-by-days/
I am using Firefox 7 and it is there. That did not address my question but thanks anyway.
How do I make Firefox Clear my History Automatically?
Check and tell if its working.
If you created those prefs in a previous Firefox version then they will still be there, but they won't have any effect in current Firefox versions, so you can right-click them and choose reset to remove them.
browser.history_expire_days browser.history_expire_days_min browser.history_expire_days.mirror
If you delete the file places.sqlite in the Firefox Profile Folder then all history should be gone.
