Search Problems after Latest Update

more options

Hello,

I recently updated Firefox to Version 100.0 and Search functionality has been compromised.

1) On a New Tab, even if I place the cursor in the Google search pane in the window, anything I type goes directly into the web address bar (sorry I do not know the proper name for the URL text box at the top of the browser.)

2) If I search for "Boston Celtics", the URL box changes to: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=boston+celtics , but the browser never opens the Google results page, and never goes to a result.

3) The Browser will NOT open google.com. It just freezes

4) Basically, I can no longer use Google, and that is a problem for me.

When I check for Firefox updates, it says that I am up to date.

I would appreciate any guidance you can provide. Without Google search, I will likely be forced to use another browser and I have been a longtime fan of Firefox.

Clear cookies and site data in Firefox to see if it helps you connect to Google.

To turn off the searches going to the url bar, see this thread: Removing seach from URL bar https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1338560#search

Your 1): in about:config search for handoff and change the following preference to false. browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar

The other questions: others have experienced issues with Google sites. You may be able to correct the problem by changing the preference mentioned in the answer linked below.

Hi David, several users have linked inoperable Google connections -- for example, working for a while after a fresh start but then failing after a while, or "Oops" messages on Gmail -- with the "zero round trip resumption" feature. This feature is intended to speed up website connections. (Explainer post by CloudFlare) However, there seems to be some kind of compatibility issue. Currently, there is only a hidden way to disable this and see whether it helps:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste security.tls.enable_0rtt_data and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch the value from true to false

After that, try Google again. Any improvement?
