Why does a item I have not searched for show up in my search history every time I use Firefox, with a Google symbol next to it?

Google.ca is my home page. Once I use the browser and then go back to my home page and click on History "Google" comes up first with the G icon but "NETGEAR Router AC2600" always shows up 2nd with the Google "G" icon beside it even though I have not searched for it or been on that website. This happens even if I clear history manually. Has Netgear hacked my account and/or are they tracking me, why will it not go away??? I got rid of my Netgear router a year ago. Thanks.

you might have a third party script going on out of your browser. If it is the problem, clearing the history won't be much of a help.

look in the task manager for a leftover service from "NETGEAR Router " or any other suspicious services or programs running on windows startup.

Hii okay so don't worry netgear is not hacking you or tracking you this happened because it was done by your router as that link will let you access the status of your wifi router like signal status,ip addresses stuff like that this is a lift over script running. My best idea is trying to clean your cache try CCleaner, click on all those boxes

Hope this solves

You can use these steps to remove saved items from an autocomplete drop-down list.

  1. click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
  2. highlight an entry in the drop-down list with cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key
  3. press Shift+Delete (68+) or Delete to delete the highlighted entry

Note that hovering with the mouse doesn't work.

There might be a problem with favicons.sqlite if you get the wrong favicon.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I had cleaned my cashe. Don't want to run CCleaner as apparently it has been known to have malware as confirmed by Bitdefender.

Thanks but there is nothing in Task Manager showing Netgear.
