Firefox 62 opens twice

more options

I have a PC running windows 10 64 bit. I have used Firefox for many years, however following the last upgrade (to version 62.0.2.6837), Firefox now loads twice which wastes time. I see from previous threads that this a known problem apparently because the IBM security software Rapport is running; while disabling Rapport fixes this issue, I cannot do this as it is a requirement for one of my online banking apps which would then not work. I think Mozilla should fix this new problem rather than ask users to disable their security software when the previous version of Firefox worked fine.

And I think that banks should wise up, stop being stubborn and listen to their customers. And maybe customers should complain about this more often to their bank(s).

(my personal opinion)

I also think that with Windows built-in Defender and a safe browser like Firefox, you don't need software that causes so many problems.

I agree that banks should pay more attention to customer needs, but they also need to be very careful about security, so making a change to their software would be a major task; as this problem has arisen with the latest Firefox version, it will be far easier for Mozilla to fix it and they need to do it without delay.

I totally understand why you think that this is a Firefox issue, but it is not just in Firefox that IBM Trusteer Rapport causes problems, over and over again. IMHO it is they (IBM) who should fix this problem, and banks that use this software should consider switching to more reliable security programs.

Here's an idea :

Would you be willing to contact IBM Trusteer Rapport about this  ?

http://www.trusteer.com/en/support/report-problem

If, on the other hand, you're convinced that Firefox should fix this, you could submit feedback here :

Seperate issue :

Your system details show that you need to update your Adobe Flash Player - you're running an older version, which can cause problems. Would you please uninstall your current version and install the latest version, which is 31.0.0.108

Uninstaller : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

Note : some 'extras' may be offered in the download.

Thanks for pointing out that I am running an old version of Flash Player; I have uninstalled what I had, and downloaded the latest.

Your link to Trusteer report a problem no longer takes me to that module, so I searched their website for the opportunity to report this one and not found it, although I received several links to their user manual.

That's weird, cause it just took me there right away :

Stab in the dark : have you checked if your have the latest version of Trusteer Rapport installed  ?

Could you explain something: what do you mean by "opens twice"? Is this a second window in the same instance of Firefox (for example, if you press Ctrl+n you get a new window and it's just like that), or is it a completely independent instance of Firefox?

You could tell it was independent by changing the theme from light to dark or vice versa and not seeing the change in the other window. (See: Built-in themes in Firefox - alternative to complete themes.)

I tried again and that time it worked, so I reported the problem to Trusteer.

Since then I had another problem with trusteer that I forgot to mention; I have to have it installed to use a bank account in Brussels and when I wanted to make a transfer I was not allowed to do this with AVG active, so I had to deactivate AVG and then the transfer was OK, so this is another problem with trusteer.

Hi,

Firefox loads twice in the same window. First time it brings up my inbox, and then after about a second, it reloads the same page. It is not a new tab.

Hi David_Dundas, your Inbox is your home page? And it reloads when Trusteer is running, but not when it is not running?

I don't know why that is happening. Is it an add-on? Maybe the add-on takes a few moments longer than the home page to load, so in order to provide protection, it reloads any open pages???

Hi,

Sorry that I havn't replied sooner. I've been away. I don't think my problem is because of Trusteer which has been on my PC for several years and the problem did not happen until the big Firefox upgrade this year.

Not only does Firefox now load twice, but it also starts on page 2 (from email #51). If I open a second tab and load Firefox again, it doesn't load twice this time (with Firefox already running on another tab). All very odd for me. Any further suggestions?

Could you try resetting your home page to the first page of the Inbox, as it seems the current address is incorrect. See: How to set the home page.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. I did as instructed in "how to set the home page" and that fixed the problem of Firefox starting on page #2, but it still loads gmail twice. There's another small prblem that may be related: when I want to reply to an email, I now have to click the reply button twice which I did not have to do before the upgrade.
