The Real Player has not worked on my Firefox for years.
I now use download managers I found at the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
There are also downloaders that work separately from Firefox.
Thanks for the swift reply. I will do as you suggest but I am used to real player and know how it works. Not sure which of the others will do it as easily and I have limited time online at the moment.
Real player works fine with IE 8 but I do not like IE in any form, that is why I wanted to use firefox.
What do you mean by downloaders separately from firefox ?
I do not use Real Player software. It seems to be popular and I guess has several functions and various versions or types. I know it sometimes has had issues on Firefox especially if Flash Player is also installed.
Probably your first port of call should be the RealPlayer site. Please let us know
- Exactly what the name ?
and version ?
is of the Real Player software that you are using. - And very briefly what it is you are trying to do ?
and what sort of download ? - If you post a question on the Real Player support site it will help us follow the issue if you let us know the link ?

Most of them use Firefox for the download, and can limit the number of downloads that happen at one time. For example, you selected 22 files to be downloaded, but you set the options to download only 2 at a time.

What happens is Firefox tells the downloader to start downloading the file you choose. The other program then takes over the download. You could even close Firefox and the other program would continue.
Hi John99
I tried the links suggested but they do not help. also the system does not recognise my emaill or password so I cannot ask a question.
I am using Windows 7 Professional 32 bit Firefox version 38.0.5 Real Player Version 16.0.3.51
Trying to save videos from facebook but the download box does not appear top right of the video clip as it used to.
hope this helps Best regards neilbowls
Hi Neil, Sorry, I am not sure I fully under stand your reply, but I think your problem is trying to use outdated RealPlayer software.
What do you mean about passwords not working ? You will have had to log in on this site to post your last reply ? Have you asked a question now on the Real player support site ? If so what is the URL (link) please ? so we may find it
You did not explain in any more detail what you were trying to download.
- What site are you downloading from ?
- Is the site one that anyone may use ?
- What sort of content, file type ?
- Can you give an example you expect to work that does not.(preferably a very small file)
I wonder if any of this is related to
- Watch DRM content on Firefox
(edit: add as text. Not sure sumo search sees & indexes KB links Watch DRM content on Firefox)
It looks quite likely you are trying to use old and un-supported software. Real Players official site is suggesting you upgrade from RealPlayer to RealTimes
- e.g. see http://uk.real.com/realplayer/ (or http://real.com/realplayer/)
Modified
Just an update about RealPlayer and Firefox.
I know some people appear to like legacy versions of RealPlayer for various reasons. The old version is no longer supported by the RealPlayer site
- see RealPlayer is now RealTimes real.com
Recently RealPlayer or components of it have been causing Firefox to crash at startup and RealPlayer no longer works* with Firefox.
Discussions of available software is not within the scope of this forum, but there will be various download managers and video download programs available. Of particular interest may be addons available for Firefox look for instance at the official addons site:
- video downloaders search
- download managers search
You can further tweak the searches on the addons website after opening one of the search links above.
Thanks for the reply, I tried downloading downloadhelper and the extra to make it work but it still does not download anything. Can youl tell me where I am going wrong.
I also tried flash downloader and this does not download anything either even though both have been authorised and you see them saying they are downloading.
I have just tried ant downloader too and this does not seem to work, I have updated firefox to latest version and still no luck.
any idea what the problem can be ?
Does anything at all download ? Regardless of if you are trying to use a downloader.
What about if you just right click on an avatar|icon from this thread and use the copy image option does that download ?
Have a look at this if you are having problems
Sorry for the delay in replying.
I have downloaded some videos but mostly it starts to wonload, you see the green bar moving acrossthe icon in the task bar then it stops so nothing is saved. I have tried videos from the same page, 1 saved 2 others did not. I have tried all the suggestions from the link but the result is the same.
the icon copies and pastes fine, also when i look in the firefox cache view not all videos download but 1 of the ones that downloader will not save is in the temp files.
Hi again, Not sure I can offer much more help.
You were having so much trouble that I wondered if anything at all would download, maybe some setting was totally wrong, but you got the icons ok and you get some videos.
Problems may be with the sites or your internet connection. It is also worth remembering some video content is not intended to be downloaded. If you are using
- Video DownloadHelper 5.3.1.1-signed
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper
That has its own support
- Video DownloadHelper Q&A
http://www.downloadhelper.net/q_and_a.php- How to use Video DownloadHelper 5
http://www.downloadhelper.net/howto.php
- How to use Video DownloadHelper 5
Ant downloader also has its own support site
- Ant Video Downloader 2.4.7.31.1-signed
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/video-downloader-player - Ant.com Support => http://support.ant.com/entries/30182650-Ant-video-downloader-for-Firefox-troubleshooting
Thanks for the reply, tried all of them and still not working. I woner if the problem is with Firefox itself.
can you tell me if there is an update to Firefox soon that may resolve these issues ?
