Autofilling password
Fire Fox has taken to auto filling my password on my brokerage account. This leaves the account available to anyone that can turn my computer on. I do not have a password saved for the brokerage account and have the company listed to be excluded. This just happened in the last few weeks.

I had checked the settings and the brokerage account was not set for auto fill. In fact it was listed as excluded. Not sure what has happened but it is no now auto filling so that problem may be solved. However I have lost the BOOKMARKS tool bar and now have to type every web site I want to open. I had over 100 pages saved. they are gone and the means of creating them is no longer an option.
You can turn the toolbar on/off using Ctrl+Shift+B (or right-click a blank area of a different toolbar to use the context menu).
Is the bar empty?
If you can't create a new bookmark, this can indicate database problems.
First, if you haven't already, please do a normal shutdown and/or restart of your system. Restarting Windows can help by freeing up locked files, completing any deferred updates, and resolving temporary file permission issues.
Next, if Firefox still has bookmark problems, could you let us know what you get when you run the "Verify Integrity" diagnosis and repair function. That's here:
Open Firefox's Troubleshooting Information page using any of these methods:
- "3-bar" menu button > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > More Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
Near the bottom, there is a section titled Places Database -- that's the file which stores history and bookmarks. Click the button labeled Verify Integrity. There may be a 10-15 second delay before results appear.
If all is well, the report that appears below the button should start with:
> Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane > Task: invalidateCaches + The caches have been invalidated > Task: checkCoherence + The database is coherent
Does yours say that, or something else? You can select and copy the report, and then paste it into a reply for review and comment.
Ctrl, Shift, B does nothing at all.
I got as far as More Troubleshooting Information but I do not see any place to type about:support.

Those are alternate methods to open the same page, so you can continue with the next step after that.
This is what I got when i found the Verify Integrity section
> Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane > Task: invalidateCaches + The caches have been invalidated > Task: checkCoherence + The database is coherent > Task: expire + Database cleaned up > Task: originFrecencyStats + Recalculated origin frecency stats > Task: vacuum + Initial database size is 5120KiB + The database has been vacuumed + Final database size is 5120KiB
I did not realize the extent of the file. This is the complete file. Looks like I have the Bookmark tool bar open. I can drag functions on to it but have no way to create a Bookmark for a given site. I have saved bookmarks on a separate external disc. Is it possible to import those?

Thanks, your database looks healthy. When you go into Customize, can you see an item called "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on the Bookmarks Toolbar? That's the container which needs to be there to show or accept new bookmarks.
Article on Customize: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars
There is a blank bar below the bar to type in a URL. If I open customize I can drag items like History, Save Page and Print into it. At that location on my screen is where I used to have a dozen Named URLs of sites I could open directly from there. I could create these named shortcut by coping any site URL I want to make into a bookmark and going to the upper right corner of the home page and right clicking on the symbol >>. That would open a drop down that allowed me to create a bookmark. The first 10 or 12 of those marks were displayed across the top of the screen. Any additional marks were hidden down the right side of the screen.
That is the function that I am trying to recreate.
I have saved my bookmarks to a separate disc but am not sure I know how to import them or if they would work give the fact the ability to create bookmarks is not eve available.
Is removing Fire Fox and rebuilding from scratch and then importing my saved info the answer. I will be working with a local IT type Thursday so any information before then might give us direction.

Can you find and restore the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" to the left of the bar? Did the Restore Defaults button make any difference?
Your Verify Integrity only reported 10 items for bookmarks, and that includes folders, so I do think you'll also want to import from the file you mentioned. Is it an HTML export? Then: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file.
You shouldn't need to reinstall unless Firefox's program files are damaged. If you want to start fresh(er), you can use the Refresh feature. This article describes what carries over and what is removed.: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Can you describe where I will find this?
I did find Overflow Menu and on it is a link for "Bookmarks toolbar items". It dose not respond.

I find it hard to describe in words, so let me re-link my screenshot of the Customize screen:
If I remember right right clicking on the >> button in the upper right of the FF screen that would open a drop down that had "Create a new Bookmark" as an option. That function is no longer there so I can't even attempt to create a Bookmark to see if would display as before.
The 'New' in create a "New Bookmark" and others has changed to 'Add' and is now "Add Bookmark" and is moved to below the edit controls in the context menu.
I think it has come down to this. Do I remove Fire Fox and reinstall and hope the bookmark function will be available. Since it appears that all my bookmarks are gone and there is now no way to create them with the current software is that the next option?
If this is the course of action am I right in assuming I will lose all save passwords and auto fill function with the removal of FF?

When you uninstall and reinstall WITHOUT removing your personal data, Firefox simply goes back to using the same data and settings. On the other hand, some methods of uninstalling will cause irreversible data loss, so I do not recommend that.
Did you already try the other less drastic options? Those include:
(1) In the Customize screen, use the Restore Defaults button to return the toolbars to their original layout. If you have not already, try this first.
Also, please check whether your Firefox has any bookmark backups with more items than you currently have. The date and item count for each automatic backup should be listed in the Restore menu. This article will get you there:
Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer
OK!!!! I found the the bookmarks under Manage Bookmarks that opens up to the Library and will display on the Side Bar. They appear to be complete however there is no described way to get them the display on the tool bar. They do function from the Side Bar if I click on one. Thanks We are half way there keep thinking.

In the left column of the Library window, are the bookmarks in the correct category -- Toolbar vs. Menu vs. Other?
On the Library window it looks like this.
History Downloads Tags All Bookmarks
(star)Bookmarks Tool Bar Bookmarks Menu Other Bookmarks
If I open (star) Bookmarks I can open any site listed. If I scroll to the bottom of the list and right click in the open area I get the option to create a new Bookmark. I still can not get the bookmarks to display on a tool bar at the top of the screen. It will not move or drag any topic to the Bookmark tool bar.

After using Restore Defaults, is the Bookmarks Toolbar completely empty again? And in Customize, it shows the "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" at the left of the bar?
Some other users have mentioned that Bookmarks Toolbar Items was not showing their Bookmarks Toolbar bookmarks that they see in that category in the Library, but I can't recall what was breaking it.
Does it make any difference if you move a different bookmark up to the top position in the Library? What I mean is:
In the left column, click Bookmarks Toolbar.
On the right side where the contents of the bar are displayed, drag the second or third bookmark to the top of the list above everything else to see whether that makes any difference. Not sure this will have any effect.
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
- use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
- you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created
You may have to restore an older bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
