When moving Thunderbird to another computer 'Inbox is too large"

I have followed the instructions, 'How to move Thunderbird data to another computer' and all seemed to work well copying from old computer (Win10) until I came to save to a USB drive to Paste into the new computer (Win11). I then got an error message indicating: Inbox too large -9.02GB nstmp too large - 4.5GB Sent too large - 7.3GB

I am not sure whether all my accounts were being moved or just the most-used one which is probably the source of the error message.

Is there a way to copy the files mentioned seperately and the paste them into the new installation after deleting the content before going through the procedure again? It does look as though the process failed as following the paste, there are no accounts in the Win11 computer, just the basic install 'awaiting setup'. You may have another solution - hope so - and thanks in advance.

Hi. Suddenly, after a couple of years with no problems at all, we cannot use our two email accounts on the PC (Windows 10 64bit). A pop-up appears asking for the password. The correct, usual, password is entered, and back comes 'Login to server with username ..... has failed.' Options offered are Retry, Enter new password, Cancel. I have tried all the suggestions I could find on this Forum, but nothing works. Not even turning off VPN and antivirus software. One email provider is talktalk, one is Posteo. There is no glimmer of solutions on their websites either.

If I delete the accounts from Thunderbird then put them in again as new accounts, will this result in loss of the all the emails from those two accounts that we have on the PC?

Is there another solution? Why has this suddenly happened? Thanks, in hope.

Dear Team After Updating from 102.15.1 (32Bit) to 115.28.0 (32Bit) I can not connect to the provider "pop.hispeed.ch" anymore. Ping pop.hispeed.ch (on CMD) shows normal raction of beeing reachable with a "reply from xxxx.". I am on Windows 7 SP1. I have checked several times all setting POP and SMTP, switched off Firewall, uninstalled virus scanner, and and and many more (all knowledge found on internet..). Pressing the "Get Message" button in the upper menue bar shows no raction when pressed. The icon "Get Message" on the left side of the button "+ New Message" results in a none moving blue status bar at the right bottom of the window. After a while with the message "timed out.. ".In the settings "Config Editor.." the values of "mailnews.tcptimeout" are set to "300", and "true". I am using TB since donkey years with many many eMails. Are the lost? Hello, We have problem with sending and receiving e-mails. Sometimes Thunderbird just stops receiving e-mails. We can send messages but they can be saved only in local folder. In browser e-mails arrive and we can send them without any problems so it has to be some problem with Thunderbird. We were trying a lot of solutions, but only one works - creating new profile. It is very time-consuming solution, because we have to copy all e-mails, contacts, user settings, etc and we have to create a new profile couple times in a month... We were trying to off our antyvirus, forget password, etc. Probably there is some problem with certificates, but we do not know how to fix it. We use IMAP. Let me know what we can do to solve this problem, because creating new profiles is too tiring... :(

I keep thunderbird pinned to my Windows taskbar and that is usually where I look for it. Every so often and much mor6e frequently than I like it vanishes from there and I believe that that is when it an update to it arrives. To maintain the state I like I then need to delete the now-dead pinning for the taskbar, find thunderbird afresh and leunch it and re-pin. This is not a terribly new behaviour but the grief threshold in my life has just been passed leading me to ask if this is a thunderbird issue or a windows one and if there is some scheme I can use to keep the application pinned pretty well come what may. This is obviously not life critical but it has been winding me up! Many thanks. Arthur

After the last update, I noticed that the function “Show in topic tree/Im Themenbaum anzeigen" no longer appears in Thunderbird.

This feature was essential for me as it allowed me to organize my emails efficiently. Without it, Thunderbird is much less practical for me.

Can you please let me know if it is possible to restore this function? If there is a setting or menu field that I can activate, I would be very grateful for brief instructions.

Very long connecting time on first launch

I'm on Thunderbird (128.6.0esr (64-bit)) on Fedora/GNOME. I've noticed, that whenever I launch Thunderbird, it takes several minutes (!) where it says "Connecting to mail… (διαβάστε περισσότερα)

I'm on Thunderbird (128.6.0esr (64-bit)) on Fedora/GNOME. I've noticed, that whenever I launch Thunderbird, it takes several minutes (!) where it says "Connecting to mail.myserver.com" in status. I'm using my own postfix/dovecot server with imap and I don't have this problem on Thunderbird Windows for instance, where it connects right away on startup. After the initial slow connection, it works just fine, when I manually trigger to scan for new messages (instantly). I tried literally any option within Thunderbird to fix that, without any success. It seems to be some trouble with resolving / dns or probably ip6/ip4, but then again, why would it work normally after the long connection time in the beginning? Any clue what might be the problem here?

Hi Support,

I am attempting to download all of my emails & folders from my CenturyLink.net account using POP server setting in Thunderbird. All of the inbox emails download but none of the folders & associated email are downloading.

When I use IMAP server setting in Thunderbird then all of my folders & associated emails download with no problems.

I want to same all of my emails to my computer so I can cancel my CenturyLink.net email and internet services but I only know how to do that using POP and PST files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Everything seemed to go okay until I tried to import my settings from the desktop (Thunderbird 128.7.0esr (64-bit) running on SolydK Linux 12 (Debian Bookworm)). I lined up the QR code (I think) and pressed the Done button, but it just dumped me back to the Getting Started screen without accessing my settings at all.

TB (ver 128.6.1 esr, 64 bit) not updating Verizon emails since 21 January 2025 to my PC. AOL Webmail shows new Verizon emails. Running Windows 11. No VPN. Firewall is off. AVG Antivirus turned off. POP account. Tried: If you cannot log in to your ISPs web-based email interface, your password may have changed. If so, it must also be changed in Thunderbird. To change your password:

       ◦ Click the menu button  and choose Settings.
       ◦ On the Security panel, click on the Passwords tab and then click Saved Passwords....
       ◦ Click on the relevant account and then click Remove.
       ◦ Close and re-open Thunderbird. You will be prompted to enter a new password for the account.

Reopening TB does NOT ask for a new password. Running TB in safe mode does NOT ask for a new password.

I used to run Thunderbird on a Windows 10 machine but I have now acquired a Windows 11 box. I tried to port my Thunderbird installation to the new computer by copying folders as recommended on the Web. I was partially successful. I can send and receive emails and my address book seems to be intact, but I lost one connection and most of the messages in the inbox for my main connection. I have lost all my starred and tagged messages and most of my sent and deleted emails. Disturbingly, the archive folder (which has many subfolders) for my main connection was not copied across. Can anyone tell me how to take a copy of an archive folder from the old machine and insert it in the corresponding position in the new one? Alan.

The problem is that 5 of them only update when I right click and update manually but the first 2 update normally when I select "Get Messages".

I've checked each feed and they all seem correct in Properties.

Anyone out there have a suggestion or solution?
