I recently forgot my password and was hoping to use my recovery keys to regain access to my account but firefox says I haven't created any and only prompts me to create recovery keys, not use them.

You need to use the recovery key instead of the password, so if you go beyond the password reset then the recovery key is no longer valid.

Note there there is only one 32 character recovery key since you write recovery keys as a plural.

There are recovery codes for two-factor authentication (2FA) that can be used when you lose access to the authenticator app on the mobile device, so make sure not to confuse the two.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.
