I can't login to the NY Times website using Firefox. I'm sure I'm using the correct password because I can log in using a different browser. I don't save passwords in Firefox. I enter them manually or use a password manager. As I said, I'm certain I'm using a valid password. I've cleared the cookies and all of the items under History on the Settings page. When I close Firefox, nothing is saved. When I contact NYT customer service, I was informed that they've had a lot of requests for assistance from Firefox users, and nothing was out of order with those users' NYT login; the problem was with Firefox.

Please advise.

I solved my problem by disabling extensions and then re-enabling them until I found the culprit. Can’t remember which one it was. YMMV.

Your Firefox reported itself as an old version. Do you know whether it has the Total Cookie Protection feature?

Otherwise, I suggest testing in Firefox's Troubleshoot Mode. In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is running:

You can restart Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)

and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Any improvement?

I have the same problem with 2 websites I have always been able to log into and now can't. Tried Troubleshooting mode and it doesn't work there either but it does work in Edge. The 2 sites are Walgreens.com and Michaels.com

It is very upsetting when I want to place an order and can't login. I detest Edge but I get forced to use it. Never had this problem in all the years I have been with Firefox, till now.

Walgreens states: We are sorry for the inconvenience, but this service is currently unavailable. Please try again later.

Michaels states: Access Denied You don't have permission to access "http://www.michaels.com/Account?" on this server. Reference #18.8ef4d517.1674517774.411c3b08

BUT AGAIN, no problem with Edge.

It was the Bypass Paywalls add-on that was apparently the problem.
