My data was not synced before reinstalling my PC

boris

Good afternoon, I restarted my windows computer because it was buggy and right before reinstalling I synced the Firefox account so that whenever I reinstalled Firefox in the PC once more I could have all my bookmarks.

Now while setting up, I find out none were synced? It doesn't appear and obviously I don't have access to the "old" browser to manually download the html file. This was weird because last time I downloaded Firefox in another device and logged into my account it automatically synced and configured everything as it was.

Please advice if there's any way to restore my bookmarks at least because I need them for work.

Many thanks. Kind regards.

Hello,

You can try these to make sync work : First, click the menu button, then sign out. After that, restart the browser, and sign in to your account.

If that doesn't work, you can try this : Press Ctrl + Shift + O (or click Bookmarks icon > Manage bookmarks at the bottom), and in the window, click import and backup. After that, select restore and choose one of the dated backups.

If it is a fresh windows install, and you can find a windows.old file, then you can go to C:\Windows.old\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and locate your older data from there.

Hello, I can confirm I've tried those 3 methods you proposed but sadly none seem to work. It's really weird because I've been using Firefox in my computer since November last year and now it appears as if this account wasn't used once. Shouldn't extensions also transfer from the previous sync? I've checked and this is the only account I own so there is no possibility that I've logged in a new account.

On the bookmarks tab, the only restoring point is from earlier today but has no bookmarks except the default ones. Is there a possibility that I might have accidentally created a new account? It has happened before with other services like Riot for example, but since the email is the same I highly doubt this.

As for the windows old files, I've tried both from settings > temporary files and writing down the address in the file browser, even searching through with the hidden files checked on. Nothing was found so far.

I will try to restart Windows in the trouble shooting mode, then figure out all the things I might need to add now. Thank you for your time.

Hi

It appears from your question that you are using Firefox Sync as a backup service. While it may be handy in some cases (such as transferring your data to a new device), we do not recommend relying on Sync for backup purposes.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you should be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. To restore bookmarks, see this article. For instructions on recovering all of your data, see Restore bookmarks, passwords and data from an old Firefox profile.

If you have your data in Firefox on a mobile device, please follow these instructions to connect it to Sync and copy the data.

Be aware! Resetting your Mozilla account password without a recovery key will erase your data from Mozilla servers. Make sure to generate a recovery key in advance and safely store it.

Hope this will help you resolve your issue!
