Firefox on Linux becomes unclickable

In the last few days, after some minutes of usage, parts of Firefox become unclickable:

- I can still click on tabs to change tabs. - When hovering over the cross button to close a tab, it changes appearance as it should. Clicking the button does nothing. Ctrl+w still closes the button. - Clicking on the address bar does nothing. - Cannot click on back, forward, refresh buttons. - Cannot click on any add-ons. - Cannot click on preferences. - Can click on the button to open a new tab. There, I can enter an address. Once the page has loaded, address bar becomes unclickable again. - Bookmarks toolbar is still working as expected. - Keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+t, ctrl-w, ctrl-l) still work as expected.

I'm running ``` Mozilla Firefox 138.0 20250428130755 20250428130755 ```

on Manjaro 25.0.1 with GNOME 48

X11 or Wayland? Does it happen with Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode Does it happen under a different user account?

Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla. Download, unzip, and run firefox-bin from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release You can also see if it happens on your OS of choice via live usb stick.

I'll give those a try. Not sure how long it may take to report back, as I don't know what provokes the issue, so I can't deliberately cause it.

One new thing that I noticed is that when a firefox window becomes unclickable (it's just the firefox buttons, the site contents still work fine), I can still open a new window using ctrl-N. The new window then works as expected and is clickable.

I'm on Wayland:

OS name: Manjaro Linux

GNOME Version: 48

Test X11 and maybe try another desktop for S&Gs. I was having similar issue with Nightly, but it's stopped happening. see screenshots Also had to open a new window to restart and it fixed the issue. I would also recommend running more than 1 browser and use sync like a backup of your data. If 1 browser goes BOOM and your data is gone, you have it in another browser. Also need to have it other devices. see screenshot All of my different versions of Firefox, Waterfox, and Floorp run from my Downloads folder. I see you have a probook. I have a 455 G9(AMD Ryzen 7) and looking to trade up to a G11 16inch via ebay in the near future. Also looking at theZBook Power with Ryzen 9.

I have the exact same problem of mladen.ivkovic

I recorded a video[v] to demonstrate which part becomes unclickable

That's your distro version right? What happens with Firefox from Mozilla? Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla. Download, unzip, and run firefox-bin from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

Yes. I've downloaded the newest version, 138.0.3, from that site and the problem still occurs.

You can also Refresh Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings Same issue under a different user? Did you test X11 or another desktop? Same issue using a live usb stick and your OS?

I have the same problem on Kubuntu 24.10 and Manjaro, both using Plasma 6 (Wayland). It affects Firefox 138 and Nightly 140.

I can reproduce this behaviour by rapidly left-clicking and dragging a tab slightly (but not enough to swap it with another tab). The UI (except tab selection) becomes unclickable until I drag a tab again.

Thanks do @dól 's remark, I was able to find a solution to unfreeze the windows.

While I cannot produce the issue as they describe by rapidly left-clicking and dragging a tab slightly, once the issue occurs, the buttons become clickable again for me once I do that, i.e. I click on a tab and drag it around a little.

There is a Firefox bug report for this issue now.

> Leftover movingtab attribute leaves unresponsive toolbar/urlbar until tab is dragged again

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1955112

As the bug description indicates, a workaround is to hold and drag any tab slightly. That makes the toolbar responsive again.

I can confirm that it also affects Ubuntu 24.04, Gnome, Wayland, Firefox 138.0.3~build1 installed from https://packages.mozilla.org/apt.

@dól Thanks for the tip about the workaround.

@mladen.ivkovic Since this affects more than just Manjaro, if you can, I suggest that you update the title of this topic to "Firefox on Linux becomes unclickable".
