Can't sign in to Sync with Firefox 68
I have downgraded Firefox to version 68.11.00 on my Android 8, because I need some features that in new Firefox miss.
But I can' sign in: I go to the settings, then open the address:
about:accounts?action=signin&entrypoint=preferences
but the blue running circle keeps rotating to infinity with no further steps.

Firefox for Android 68 has not been supported for some time now (fast approaching two years) and Firefox Sync is no longer available for it.
I know. But till the last week it was installed and synched correctly.
These two years I decided to keep Firefox 68 on my Android, and sync always worked, also after some uninstall/reinstall I did for mistake.
Yesterday I accidentally updated the app from the Play Store, and when I uninstalled it and turned back to 68 with the .apk, sync didn't work anymore.
The reasons for I prefer FF 68 is mainly its keeping the bookmarks keyword feature.
Its disappearing on the new versions turned me very sad. Creating custom search engines is not the same... Keywords are fantastic, they are perfectly integrated to the bookmarks and can serve the address bar both as search engines (with %s) and shortcuts to URLs.
Firefox for Android 68 is no longer supported.

In fact, we have debated the issue a lot in 2020 on GitHub, but it seems that there's nothing to do. The developers looked peremptory and say that this feature won't be maintained.
I can't realize why.
That's why I have continued using the 68. Till now, at least.
