I see the tabs, but the box to type in new websites or to google information has disappeared. How do I pull that back up?

Try to press "F11", will that help?

If not, press "ALT", choose view -> toolbars -> customize, click "restore default set" button at the bottom.

I figured it out. Clicked the line next to the tabs line and a drop-down menu appeared. From there I was able to get the settings back. Thanks!
