What does a number on the Firefox taskbar icon mean?

Today, I suddenly noticed a "24" within a circle (or on a circle) on the Firefox taskbar icon. Does anyone know what that is? I don't ever remember seeing that before. I maintain hundreds of PCs and am seeing it on my own production system for the first time anywhere.

Hi Carl, I haven't seen that, but I have all the windows combined into one Taskbar button so if there are new developments/notifications for any particular tab, I wouldn't expect to see that.
