Chosen solution

Hi alpugh, thank you for the video. The critical behavior here is that in Firefox 89, the cursor is set to jump from the search bar -- which is strictly about searching -- to the address bar, which has URL autofill.

There is a preference to change that back, but it does take a bit of work to find it because of the unusual name:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste handoff and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar preference to switch the value from true to false

Success?

In about:config, try setting browser.urlbar.suggest.topsites to false.

I managed to stop getting any unwanted suggestions, and I can't remember 100% everything I did, but I think this is the one setting that can't be accessed from the GUI and needs to be done using about:config.

Hey, JS, You did it! Thank you!

Now,... can you help get my cell phone and my remote control/cable tv to behave properly?

      :)
