I ran the latest upgrade when prompted at login. When it upgrade and the system rebooted, I saw my usual home pages plus a page in Russian.

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.startup.homepage

What is the value? Right-click and select Reset to restore its default value; about:home

Thanks very much for your response. I did. There were four responses to the browser.startup search. I reset them all to default value (about:home) and two disappeared. The two that disappeared were browser.startup.homepage_override.buildID and browser.startup. homepage_override.mstore. Are these normal or should I be concerned? Thanks again for the prompt response.

Only browser.startup.homepage matters. The other two are set automatically to match the current Firefox version.

What page is opening (URL in location bar)?

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button# or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button# or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
