Firefox takes about a minute to display first site, then is OK
Hello, For about two or three days now, when I launch Firefox and try to open any website, it takes maybe one minute to load the page, then the navigation is OK on every website.
It only happens when I launch Firefox for the first time of my session. If I close it then relaunch it, it's still very swift.
I tried clear cache and remove cookies, just lost my logins lol but didn't work. I also tried with no extensions, nothing changed. Lastly I tried to set "network.captive-portal-service.enabled" to "false" in "about:config" but it didn't change anything neither.
So before I try anything else that could erase something on my profile, I'd rather ask here for some help :)
PS: running FF 153.0.4 on Debian Trixie with Mozilla repos. Only have two extensions: µblockOrigin and NoScript.
Thank you in advance!

OK if clean profile works, and safe mode over the original profile don't … it's possibly something in settings of that exact profile, but that might be a little convoluted to track down.
You can either try tracking down various networking panes to try to find what's stuck — or go the opposite way, and instead of fixing your original profile look into manually transferring key data to a new clean profile instead?
There's also "Refresh" functionality: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings that should keep most of the personal data.

You don't need to try destructive things right away:) as the best is usually just creating a clean testing profile on the side, and if you set it as default for now it will start into it — so you can verify the same steps using a clean profile to rule out any preference/data interference first.
Hello jbr, thank you for your answer :) Well I thought my "test" account was enough but I followed your tip by creating a brand new one and this works. I restarted my computer and every site displays instantly! Thank you for the tip! Now the aim is to understand what's wrong with my main profile... do you have any idea? (I measured the time needed to display the first site: 1'20"... not bad :D )
The next step on your main profile would be running Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox — starting that cold right away means:
firefox --safe-mode
from the path where the binary is available.
If that startup is instant, it's mostly tied to addons and customization. If it's equally slow, well, more convoluted;)
Thank you again :)
With the safe mode, the result is the same (including after a computer restart), 1'20" to display the first site.
Just to avoid any confusion:

You mention "account". I wanted to test using a clean Firefox profile data running the existing OS user account. The above sounds like you spun up a separate system user account on your OS, correct?
Just trying to pin down where's the slowdown. If any profile or mode yields the same under your OS user, and if you perhaps pull a firefox-nightly package from the same repo to test on the side and it's still the same, then it might be your OS–level networking setup inside your user profile (filtering DNS? local proxy setup? VPN? etc.)
Sorry for the confusion. It was a profile, not a system account! My bad. So yes with a brand new profile, Firefox is really swift.
Normally everything is fine considering DNS. My wife uses another computer at home and she has no problem with Firefox (the same build but on Ubuntu, not Debian). We don't use VPN or so.
I'll give Nightly a try, just let me the time to restart my computer to be on the safe side.
Thank you!
edit: restart, and Nightly displays any site almost instantly :)

Yes, that works! I just reinstalled my extensions and remade the customization of my profile and now Firefox displays the first site in the blink of an eye. Thank you very much for your help, jbr! :)
