Tbird seems to have joined the ranks of programs (Windows is the worst offender) that change user settings WITHOUT PERMISSION OR NOTICE. Several months ago, Tbird changed my Inbox view (running Windows 11 Pro) from Classic to something else. With help from somebody (?David?) on this Forum, I was able to get back to Classic view by pressing the F8 function key.

But last night, the view changed again and F8 doesn't work. All F8 seems to do is toggle the # of messages displayed between 7 and 14. On this gawdawful new view (shown in Screenshot 01), instead of having the CONTENT of the highlighted message displayed at the bottom of the screen, in order to actually READ a message, I must click on it, and then it appears in a separate window. Thus deleting the endless number of messages asking for money is a HUGE time-waster.

PLEASE can somebody give me a RELIABLE way to get back to Classic view? (Even better, can you tell me if there was something I mistakenly did to cause the view to change, so that I will take care not to do it again?

All the existing advice I've found on this Forum seems to relate to prior versions. That is, when I try to follow the advice, the screenshots don't match what I see on my screen. I've included a couple of screenshots that show one of the places that I looked for possible remedies. Screenshot 02 shows what appears when you hover the mouse over a weird little icon that theoretically governs "Message List Display Options". Screenshot 03 shows what appears when you click on that icon, offering mysterious options like "Table View" and "Card View". (I tried them and they seem even worse than the gawdawful view I'm stuck with.

Not being able to EFFICIENTLY read my Email is driving me nuts. Thanks in advance for any help anybody can offer.

I just recently switched to Thunderbird and Libre Office to get rid of MS365. I am happy so far, if there wasn't one particular issue which I do not find a solution for:

I know how to sort messages with the newest on top, I know how to toggle the threaded view on and off. But I would like to use the threaded view and find it impossible to adjust a descending order within a thread. So I end up with the newest thread on top, but the thread headline shows the oldest message and if I unfold the thread it's in ascending order.

This is a major issue for me. To avoid overlooking incoming mails, I need to switch of the threaded view. Websearch didn't provide me a solution.

I've read a number of posts regarding using Mail Store Home to enable the transfer of mail from a PST file to TB. I was under the impression that the archive within MSH could be run against a stand-alone PST file (that is, Outlook is not installed). When I select Archive Email as per instructions on other posts, and specify the location of the PST file and then run, I get an error: "This feature requires Microsoft Outlook XP/2003 or higher". Does it require Outlook to be installed, or am I doing something wrong? Also I am a bit unclear of the run sequence with MSH - do I run Archive Email followed by Export Email and what is the connection between the two? Refer to image attached. Thanks.

Hi,

noticed some problems with the use of "Customize From Address" when sending out emails:

My configuration does have several free-mailers like GMX and multiple self-owned+self-run domains as well. Each mail account is configured to use their own credentials for Outgoing Server (SMTP). No sharing of SMTP credentials between accounts.

I have used the "Customize From Address" w/o creating an identity with my own domains a few times (the one-off use case, as described by TB). It is working with TB in general for each of my domains.

Now on 2 occasions I realized that sending via "Customize From Address" from customaddress@mydomain1.com ended up being sent to Outgoing SMTP-Server of @mydomain2.com. Therefor failing on submission.

Will try to enable some sort of logging in TB to find out why that is happening - not sure if that will provide enough detail to find out why this is happening.

Are there any recommendations you have or good resources on how the emailaddress of "Customize From Address" is matched with the correct Outgoing SMTP Server?

Thanks starfish

Using TB 115.15. When I move a large number of messages (200 or so) to a sub folder the move goes fast until it gets toward the end, then it locks up until it finishes a few minutes later. When I tried to move over one thousand messages at one time, I let it run overnight, some messages moved, some only moved a date header of some earlier time (all the same time) and all messages were left intact in the original directory. After moving the messages a few at a time, I had to manually delete the duplicate messages in the sub folder. What is the maximum number of messages Thunderbird will move at one time.

I used to also be able to read the Junk Email folder from the Ourlook server the same way, but the folder disappeared from my Thunderbird a couple of months ago. I tried re-adding it as a sub-folder, which is how I created it in the first place, but it won't appear on the list.

I'm not sure what else to do here. I don't know where the Thunderbird directories are stored locally any more, I'm using Ubintu 24.04.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm using Thunderbird already for a long time and I'm very happy about it. Until now!

Since 1-2 weeks the programme does not download my emails anymore. I have to go to my hosting company and download my emails from my various domains, which is a pain. I read your "solution" in the help section, but it does not help as yet. I don't know what I might have done to change the settings, but when clicking on "Get Messages" no text at the bottom bar apears that it is looking for mail, but only a blue coloured bar at the right bottom on my screen apears and when completed disappears again. When I then go to my host company (Dot5Hosting) I can find my new emails.

What do I need to do to solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance for your solution(s). Kind regards, Ronald Verwer.

I just sent a message in community forum (I think it was) about how some of my messages were loaded as raw html code, tonight. Well, I just found an interesting temporary fix: I send the offending message to "junk", then say it isn't junk, and send it back to my inbox: then it displays as it should. I tried to edit my original message here on Thunderbird with this new "fix", but was unable to. And it still doesn't solve why messages in my inbox load this way to begin with; but I thought it was interesting as a diagnostic feature.

I am still wondering whether to reinstall Thunderbird...

This has nothing to do with virus scans, because I don't have any going 24/7, that I'm aware of. Maybe Windows, though-- I'm never quite sure what it is doing. But no other 3rd party virus scans. Thanks.
