Sync issue - "This profile was previously synced to a different account"

more options

"This profile was previously synced to a different account To keep your data organized and secure, each Firefox profile can only be synced to one account. To sign in using xxx@xxxx.xxx, create a new profile."

So I deleted my old mozilla account since I abandoned the email that it was linked to, but when I tried to sync with my new account I get this. Is there anyway to do this without having to make a new profile?

I tried making a new profile and copy and pasting my profile into the new one, but still get the same pop up. I guess there's something in my profile that says it's been synced before, is there anyway I can find that and delete it or change it?

I assume you're copying and pasting your profile because you have bookmarks or passwords that you don't want to lose. Have you tried refreshing Firefox instead and trying to sync it from there?

This sounds like a recent change, probably related to the new profiles system. I can't guarantee this will work, but you could try it:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste services.sync.username and pause while the list is filtered. This preference is likely to exist if you have signed this profile in to a Mozilla account.

(3) To flush this value, click the trash can icon at the right end of the row.

Can you sign Firefox in to a different account after that?

Yes, jscher, a lot of events seem to be emerging after the launching of the new profiles system you refer to (..as if the old profiles system wasn't working).

All of this is looking quite serious. A 144.0 update - and NOTHING appears in decades of bookmarks! History empty, reports of crashing and failed sign-ins. SERIOUS ALERT !!

Windows 10 22H2 Signed in using normal Mozilla account for sync.

Which problems are you having? If not the same error message as the thread owner, please start a new question: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/firefox/form
