Hi, if you have been using Firefox Sync, there is a good change that your bookmarks were saved in the Sync cloud. Unfortunately, if you are aren't able to sign into your Mozilla Account because of a problem accessing your email or if you forgot your password, then you lose access to that data.

Now, you mentioned downloading a new version. Did you uninstall the old version? Usually the Firefox uninstaller asks whether you want to remvoe your data, so if you did NOT select to remove your data, it should still be.. somewhere. Could you try the steps in the first section of the following article and see whether they are in a different profile: Recover lost or missing Bookmarks.
