I had ro reset my Firefox password and now years of bookmarks are gone. What was the point of creating an account?

As it says. I gave you info with the understanding that my bookmarks were protected. You did not hold up on your end of the bargain. You basically stole my personal info since I got nothing in return for giving it to you. Firefox was always my go to browser and I always recommended it. Not it is just a dumpster fire. I lost some very important info. I will never come back.

Hi, you don't need an account or password to use Firefox - it is mainly only needed if you want to use Sync How do I set up Sync on my computer?.

For that reason, resetting your password should have no effect on the bookmarks which are stored on your PC.

It probably isn't the cause, but first try disabling your AdBlock 3.16.0 (jid1-NIfFY2CA8fy1tg@jetpack) extension - 3-bar menu > Add-ons > Extensions.

If that doesn't help, try restarting Firefox - 3-bar menu > Exit.

In case a Refresh has occurred, please look on your Desktop for a file named Old Firefox Data - Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

If the file isn't there, you can try this: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Restore, and see if you have a backup there.

If not, please see -

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

I had reinstalled my OS on my PC. Firefox kept telling me my password was wrong. I reset It. Years of bookmarks gone.

Did you format or Reset it as if reset it , you will find your Bookmarks in C: in a folder called old.windows in the same path that the bookmarks would have been in before (more or Less). Please follow the general idea in that folder to your bookmarks :

Once found your Profile :

Bookmarks will be in your Profile in these :

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder

For Future as it is not up to Mozilla and it is standard to backup :

Format. Bookmarks are gone. Firefox sucks.

Firefox Sync is not a bookmark backup system, it is a system to synchronize devices. When you told your Firefox Account to reset your password, you were shown a message that resetting would erase all data in your Firefox Account. This is due to the encryption that Firefox Accounts use, which means that nobody, not even Mozilla, has access to your data without your password, because it is the encryption key for your account. When you reset it, it wiped your account.

You said you reinstalled your operating system, did you make a backup? Is there a windows.old folder on your hard drive?
