Email header and email message

Bobby Pequeno

I recently updated to 147 and my email is not working efficiently. 1) Thunderbird will not open again after closing 2) Email header populates but message will not 3) All emails are in Inbox but none populate email message.

Help!

Email header populates but message will not - All emails are in Inbox but none populate email message. That means the index file is not properly synched up with whatever exists in mbox file.

First try this:

  • Right click on Inbox and select 'Properties'
  • Click on 'Repair folder'
  • Click on 'OK'

If everything seems to disappear then emails did not exist in Inbox mbox file, so it cannot display them. That could be because you are not connecting to server. Upon start of Thunderbird, an IMAP account will connect to server and make sure whatever is on server is displayed in the account imap folders. Maybe your Thunderbird is not connecting to server to perform that initial process.

Please check the following because if they are causing the block then nothing else will work. Exit Thunderbird if it's running.

Firewall: Access Firewall - it might be the default on computer or controlled by an Anti-Virus prgram you installed. Set up Thunderbird program as 'allowed' so nothing gets blocked. Maybe the Firewall has not recognised the updated Thunderbird as allowed. If it's already set up, uncheck to block, exit Firewall and then access Firewall again and reset to allow.

  • Confirm Thunderbird is set up as allowed program.

VPN: Check computer for a VPN. Some Anti-Virus products now offer a VPN and I have come across some people who did not realise one had been enabled. Switch off VPN (or create split tunnelling and set it up for Thunderbird to use). Gmail does not like VPN as it atempts to hide your IP address, so gmail decides you might be hacker so it auto blocks access.

  • Confirm VPN is switched off
