I keep getting the Virginia Pilot news stories for another area of Virginia - I have unsubscribed and turned off pop-ups and I'm still getting it every time I open Firefox.

Then you might want to clear history and cache but this could wipe clean all login/pswd and history at the same time but this might get rid of those popups as well. So this will be up to the user to decide how to proceed doing this. But if you go to that site again and get those popups then they are coming from the site itself and there's not much Firefox can do to stop those popups as well. Firefox does have a simple popup blocker but that may or may not stop the site popup and that would require Popup Addon to be installed to stop the popups. Also if you can post the url and let other test to see if they get the same results as your having to be sure what is happening as well.

I've done the clearing of history and cache. I blocked popups - so odd that it began after one of the Firefox updates. I've never read that paper (Virginia Pilot) nor been to it's website and it doesn't even cover the area of Virginia I'm in. When one appears there's a place to click on that takes you to the website itself and I've unsubscribed (not that I ever subscribed in the first place) It only happens when I start up the computer in the morning; not throughout the day. I'll try to take a screenshot in the morning when it appears again. Thanks for the suggestions.

Usually popups come from the sites for the most part. But without a link to the site in question with the problem would others know what is happening should they click the link to that site.

The ones from the Virginia Pilot went away after following the directions from the other poster about settings but this morning I had one that said I had a comment on a Facebook post. They're in boxes with black background and say "Mozilla Firefox" in the top left corner. I tried to take a screenshot of one but it doesn't work. So weird - this never happened until it updated a month or so ago.
