I have 3700 messages in Trash. How can I delete 2000 without doing it one by one?

I want to delete all but the last 4 months of messages. There must be a way to do quickly, rather than deleting each one individually - at least I hope so.

Windows created item selection shortcuts in the beginning of Windows.

Control+a select all

Click one item, move up or down several items, hold the shift key and click the second item. Select 1st and 2nd items and all in between.

Hold the control key and click random items. Selects anything clicked on.

Hold control key and click a selected item to deselect
