I just updated my firefox, I am trying to figure it out and I can not close my tabs with out doing CTRL W. There is no X to close them, Why. Also there is a Red X all the way to the right of the area (only one) but it does nothing, what is that for?

Thank you,

Lisa

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can check the pref browser.tabs.closeButtons on the about:config page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

How can I use "safemode" when there is nothing at the top? That's why I can't exit, there is no "x" either.

Common questions after updating Firefox

Check and tell if its working.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).

If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.

You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.
