Adding a hotmail email account to Thunderbird 153.0 (64-bit) on Windows 11 Home succeeds, but ends with only inbox folder and it stays empty even when the server shows many messages

I ran TB in troubleshooting mode and the problem was still there. I deleted the account and created it again but it did not help. I killed TB and restarted, no joy. I rebooted Windows (build 26200.8875), no help. I have a working hotmail account so I compared the Account Settings and Server Settings, they are identical. Both accounts can contact the Mail Server and I get the Certificate ok. I could add the hotmail email account to my Mail app on iPhone and iPad and that worked fine, so seems like a Windows Thunderbird issue. I tried changing the password of the account to the real password but then restarting TB I got an error message: "login.microsoftonline.com needs you to confirm access again to keep syncing with your account. Username: <foo>@hotmail.com". I do not know how to handle that.

So I am assuming you changed the Microsoft issued oauth access token to your password and got an error. I would suggest you start by deleting any and all password for the account and comple5ting the oauth authentication flow that apparently has commenced with telling you Microsoft wants your credentials restated because the token is simply now invalid.

BTW depending on the versions of Thunderbird you are using, the Apple products do not even use the same access protocols. About as similar as an EV and a diesel truck. Both can do essentially the same thing on the same highway, but once you get to specifics basically nothing about the systems to do that are the same.

What result do you get if you reenter you credentials in the web pages that are loaded after deleting the passwords from Thunderbird?
