Cannot Create New Tab in Private Window

A few months ago (maybe for a year?), after a certain update, I found that I cannot create new tabs directly in private window. That is to say, ctrl+T does not work, same for clicking the + button near the tabs or hitting the "new tab" from the drop down list. However, any of the action mentioned above works as expected when it is in a normal window.

I do not have any extension related with tab management, and I really cannot figure out why this is happening, so I was always expecting the next update will fix this issue.

I just tried to turn on the troubleshoot mode and it worked! But still I do not know what the cause is. If troubleshoot mode can fix the issue, does that mean that it's the problem of my extensions or my personalized settings?

If it works in Troubleshoot Mode and in regular mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled, try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via one of these:

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit
