I have been using Sync to keep my data backed up for the last 3 months. I got a new computer and logged in expecting Sync would bring my data in. To my surprise, NOTHING! All my open tabs, all my book marks, history, saved passwords... GONE!

And I can't go to the old computer because it has been turned in.

Hi

Thank you for your question about the Firefox Sync service.

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article.

If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data.

The FireFox needs to make that clear! They tout this as "work anywhere" on "any platform" all seamlessly. Force you to make an account on their server to use it, which implies "data storage"

A normal person would assume; I close my browser at work, drive home and open my browser at home and I can just pick up where I left off. Now, you're telling me it does not work that way at all? Then why have it? Why push it as a solution to multi-location tool, when, at least one location "has" to be open as the master or bridge at all times?

Thanks for another useless tool. I might as well use Edge since FireFox is becoming more and more like it with each update.

I miss XMarks sync!

Resetting the password for the Firefox Account because you do not remember the password will remove all data stored on the Sync server because this password is used to encrypt your data before it is uploaded to the Sync server and only this password or a possible recovery key can decrypt this data.

@cor-el,

Try reading what I wrote. No where in there does it say that I changed or updated my password. I have enough self-awareness to know a password change would lock the data. That is NOT what I am talking about.
