This page [Old question on subject] apparently no longer works as that parameter is TRUE on my system. This one [Using greasemonkey script] doesn't sound encouraging. I don't want to break the china to fix the cabinet door.

I also saw one posting about adding to a Vue script but writing that is not my idea of a solution. Any better suggestions?

Thanks.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

You can try Firefox from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution to see if it behaves differently.

I tested on Reddit, which is the main site I notice where once you start typing a comment, if you decide to leave the page, you get that message. It uses the standard mechanism which generates the standard message:

Setting the dom.disable_beforeunload preference to true works for me on Reddit, in that I do not get the prompt and Firefox just immediately leaves the page.

Are you getting that overlay, or something different/custom?

@jscher2000, that is similar but it simply says "Log out of [site name]?" I guess they are not sure that if I hit the logout button, I really want to do it. It's not like anything is left if I do so

@corel, I'll try that when I have a chance. It's a pain to have instructions on a sit that disappears when you follow the instructions. Means I have to PDF print the page to save it while I'm trying it. I'll see if that give me a clue to the problem.

If this only happens if you click the logout button and not when you leave or close the tab then it is likely that this alert comes from the website and there is not much that you can do.
