For a couple weeks now all open tabs suddenly go to black and new tabs as well, forcing me to restart Friefox each time it happpens. Please help?
Approximately a couple weeks ago I began experiencing crashes. The screen would go to black. And when I check other open tabs, those screens had gone black too. I would have to close Firefox and reopen in order to resolve the problem. I've tried restarting the computer, deleting unnecessary files, running malware and virus scans, and generally cleaning up everything that I could. But nothing has made a difference. In fact the problem became so persistent that I considered using another browser, even though I am a loyal, committed Firefox user. BTW< there is no error message or code associated with this problem. Thanks for your help.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
- Click the menu button
, click Help 
and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that start with "bp-".

You can find the report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" page (about:support).
- click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the about:crashes page and see all crash reports.
Alternatively you can open about:crashes via the location/address bar.

Try to disable multi-process windows in Firefox to see if that has effect.
You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page.
- browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
- browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
