Clicking on a link opens a maximized window.

I have links that opens a child window. I am using window.open without height and width(as per the requirement). In firefox 30, it always opens the pop up with the size of the parent window. Is there anything that we can restrict Firefox from taking the properties of parent window? Tried the solution suggested here
