Links in email open in browser without my settings

Win 11, v.153.0 Firefox (default), v.153.0 T'bird.

Lately, when there's a link in an email and I click on the link, it takes me to a Firefox browser that's not my normal one - this new one doesn't have my settings, saved passwords, or home screen default, etc.

What happened and how can I fix it? Or must I wait for another update? (It just now updated to 153.0 and the problem still exists)

It is quite annoying.

In firefox, go to about:profiles via the address bar and find the one in use. Above the profile name, it will show 'This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.' If there is a 'Set as default profile' button, click it. Then try a link in a message.

Oops. I accidentally clicked on this solved the problem.

It didn't.

It doesn't matter what profile (I only have one) I choose in "my" Firefox; clicking on a link opens a whole new Firefox with NO profiles.

More weird behavior: When I DO click the link in the email and it takes me to this non-descript browser (which I have verified is, indeed, Firefox), the next time I open Firefox, it asks if I want to set it as my default browser, because it's not. Yet when I look in settings at the defaults, FFox IS set as the default browser.

Well, hmph. I changed the default browser to Duck Duck Go's and the same thing happens. So it's either a Win11 problem or a T'Bird problem.

SO... I went to the website that hosts my email and when I click on a link in an email there, it works properly. There's something weird about T'Bird that's doing this.
