Firefox got WEIRD crash and now no flash-rich site will load and even Mozilla.org or FB.COM are flagged UNSTRUSTED!
Firefox Crashed, and after restart it was totally RESET with NO add-ons, NO themes, only bookmarks. Weird bugs -- can't open some flash-rich sites, even Mozilla.org or Facebook.com are flagged as UNTRUSTED!
I also get error when i try to download add-on from the Extensions menu!
Re-installed it TWICE (removing the firefox folder in the mozilla folder for all settings) and SAME SHIT.
What happened? Is that some virus? Chrome works fine but
I WANT MOZILLA.
Seriously how can i fix this?
Thank you, Dimitar

Hi again Mitizaro, OK you can now see that the ESET issued certificate is trying to be passed off as being valid for a mozilla site.
ESET's solution as linked from an article I liked to in my first post is explained in
Could you look at that and try to follow those instructions please.
OR Try to follow the instructions in jscher2000's alternative method earlier on in this question thread

First, I am sorry to hear about the crash. In order to help please try the following toubleshooting step: Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly)
Uninstall all versions of flash and make sure to install the latest version. It may be that something is corrupted. Uninstall Flash Player for Windows
No, dear Admin it does NOT help!
Seriously i do not even know if its Flash or Java or something else - websites such as Badoo.com do not get more than a few words being displayed.
I have Uninstalled JAVA and FLASH, rebooted the PC and the installed them back in, REBOOTED the PC and guess what? Still the same.
Please explain to me why after uninstalling Mozilla'S Firefox and removing the %APP folder, i still have remaning settings when i re-install it?
Why can't i completely purge the system from Firefox to make a clean new installation?
After just regular browsing, while the PC was doing something else (video editing on software, something we do for months now with NO problem) the Firefox CRASHES and after restart it is CRIPPLED!
How will you explain the un-trusted connections to OBVIOUSLY trusted websites such as youtube.com, facebook.com, mozilla.org?
Obviously - the Firefox is the source of the problem.
And don't you dare give me the bullshit of the "its your OS" or "PC" reply. I have a gaming ROG that is very new and very functional WITH EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM AND BROWSER EXCEPT Firefox now!
Also i have windows 10 with NO issues so far and having used Firefox for MONTHS with no problem!
We also have more PCs running windows 10 here all with the same version of Firefox, Flash and Java - with NO PROBLEMS!
FURTHERMORE - I noticed i have some clients of mine (i am a Strength Coach) that have the same issue foR MONTHS!
I like Mozilla much better than Chrome because of the way it functions, the design, outlay and rendering sizes.
But im now forced to learn and use CHROME, because browsers are essential to our business.
You will loose A LOT of customers that way, Dear Mozilla!
Sincerily, Soon-to-be-Ex-Fan

Hi Mitizaro, Sorry it will be frustrating if Firefox is bust, for apparently no good reason.
We will gladly try to help you. You have already said it is not the same on all your machines. It probably is something to do with how one machine is set up, but we can not see your machines and rely on information from you in order for us to try to assist you.
Old Profile
if you have any recent folder on your Desktop relating to a Firefpx profile please leave it where it is and do not delete it yet (It is a slight security risk IF other people use the PC as it may have personal information and session cookies in it) But do say what the folder is called, and do have a quick look around in it see if it includes a folder of Bookmark backups, and a file called places.sqlite ?
Crashes & Settings
If you are getting Firefox crashes you need to submit the crash reports for processing then let us have some of the recent crash IDs as explained in the linked article the Admin posted. Those crash IDs start with bp- and after posting on the forum change to links, that should help us figure out what is happening.
if you correctly removed the AppData it would clear the Firefox settings but you may not actually wish to do that !! Because as a long time Firefox user you may well have for instance important passwords and bookmarks you do not wish to lose. There are alternatives.
One thing to try is running Firefox in its safemode and with all its plugins including Flashplayer disabled by setting as never activate. Does that help prevent crashes ? Note that is a troubleshooting step and easily reversible it is not intended to be how you will need to use Firefox in future.
If you want to remove settings there is simple method of doing this, or there is a more advanced method.
- Simple method (NOT what I recommend at the moment. It is easy to do but tricky to undo) Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
- Better test: Create a new additional profile, then try Firefox with that.
- Use the Run dialogue (Winkey+R) key in firefox.exe and press Enter.Give it a simple name such as new2016a, use the suggested location, and do not rename or delete it once created. Note the profile manager lets you choose which profile to use when you start it up.
- Full instructions are in Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles
By using the profile manager you may easily and quickly switch between using Firefox as it is with its current settings and as it is after a new install with default settings. (Remember plugins are separate and may need disabling to test whether thay are part of the problem)
untrusted connections
The untrusted websites is a slightly separate matter. That probably is down to security software you use and how it is set to work with Firefox. But this post is already rather long lets ee how you get on with this first. So we cxan check the other problemm [lese list the security relatged software you use with full names and versions, and the exact error messages you get. See also
Alright lets get started. First i have attatched images with the OLD FIREFOX DATA and a picture search that has places.sqlite (and where it is).
I currently do not get any crashes. Firefox just doesn't open some pages, including the EXTENSIONS page of Mozilla. (Facebook is still okay).
I tried REFRESHING and run in Safe Mode as well. Same shit.
I HAVE NO MORE PLUGINS OR EXTENSIONS AND I GET UNKNOWN ERROR when i try to download ANY via the menu (the extensions have has no icons).
I have attatched the way that firefox shows me its EXTENSIONS page (same for all broken pages).
Please calm down and see the Forum Rules and Guidelines page. I know this can be frustrating, but the manner you respond to support contributors and the 'language' you use is important. Rudeness and cursing won't be tolerated.
Thanks for the reply. No more crashes is as small improvement then.
Just for now until we solve your problem please do not download or install any Firefox extensions, they may be involved with your problem. Also please do not delete any of your Firefox profiles, or any of the Old Data Folders.
You will not have Firefox extensions if you have done a Refresh, one of the main things it does is remove Extensions.
No need to Refresh Firefox again unless we suggest it is necessary. In case it contains useful information can you let us have two or three of the most recent Crash Report Crash IDs That's just the text beginning with bp- you should see those if you visit about:crashes. Full instructions lower down.
Will you please list your security related software and the exact message if you still get problems with untrusted sites. (Or confirm they work ok now.)
If you visit the firefox extensions page or any other page that looks very odd try these two steps
- Press keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F5 that should overide the current cached files and may reload it ok
- If that does not help also clear the cookies for that particular website.(That may sign you out and may lose some information from that site) Follow these instructions Clear cookies and site data in Firefox_delete-cookies-for-a-single-site
The availability of plugins probably should not have changed, can you briefly indicate what plugins have been lost.
Crash IDs
Please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
- Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.
Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.
(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)
Thank you for your help!
More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.
Excuse my rudeness but i feel like i am talking to one of those bots that were popular 2 years ago.
I HAVE NEVER HAD ISSUES WITH CRASHING! I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO USE EXTENSION MUCH BEFORE I TRIED "REFRESHING" THE BROWSER.
THE SITUATION HAS NOT GOTTEN ANY BETTER.
To REPEAT myself:
I cannot open a lot of pages and my EXTENSIONS DO NOT WANT TO DOWNLOAD and have dissapeared COMPLETELY! I have my PLUGINS but my EXTENSIONS ARE COMPLETELY OUT AND UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD!
Is that clear, Please?
I do not have any crash reports. Already deleted all cookies, no progress from that. I DO read forums and suggestions, i'm not that stupid (i realize probably more than 2/3 of the people ask the forum FIRST and never try the Q&A but i really did searched all i can for solution myself, that is why i'm here -- i couldn't find any).
CTR+F5 does not solve anything, same stuff happens.
The lack of crash reports is probably due to the fact i re-installed and delted the %APP folder with Firefox when i re-installed the program.
But i have NEVER EVER HAD ISSUES WITH CRASHING THE FIREFOX!
It's just that the ISSUES I HAVE started AFTER one crash (and yes i re-installed it since then removing the %APP folder, explaining the lack of reports now).
I use NOD32 (paid license) as my Anti-Virus program. I also have the WIN10 defender ON and that configuration is what i run since YEARS with NO problems.

Hi Mitizaro, most likely Firefox's refusal to trust website certificates is due to Firefox -- post-Refresh -- not being set up to work with ESET NOD32. That program has a feature to filter your web traffic and in order to read secure communications, it inserts itself as a "man in the middle" and presents Firefox with fake site certificates. You have two options for dealing with this:
(1) Shut off that feature (2) Import the ESET signing certificate into Firefox
For #1, see our support article "How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites"
For #2, you could take a shortcut and copy over a file from your old profile folder which already contains the certificate. Here's how:
From inside Firefox: open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
- (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename cert8.db to something like cert8-old.db. (If Windows does not show the .db file extension, or other common extensions like .js and .txt, you can change that as outlined in this article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wi.../show-hide-file-name-extensions)
Find the cert8.db file in your earlier profile folder in Old Firefox Data and copy it into your active profile folder. Windows should show it in alphabetical order next to cert8-old.db.
Start Firefox back up and it should trust ESET once more.
If it turns out you need to import the certificate manually: It's been a while since I checked the ESET user guides, but here's a post from January with links: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1106975#answer-837219
I can't believe you blame it on ESET'S NOD32.
LET ME REPEAT FOR THE PEOPLE WHO CANT READ
I GOT THE PROBLEM WITH FIREFOX (i'm tempted to use bad language here due to the inability of you people to READ) BEFORE THE REFRESH!
F*CK THE REFRESH, YOU HEAR ME? I GOT EVERYTHNG BEFORE I READ THE IDEA THAT I CAN REFRESH MY (already) BROKEN BROWSER!
And NOD32 had nothing to do with the issue. I've been using it for MANY YEARS with MANY PCs with Firefox.
THERE WAS NO VIRUS, NO ACTIVITY, NO UPDATE FROM NOD32 RIGHT PRIOR TO THE MOZILLA FIREFOX CRASH AND ETERNAL BUG!
Is my English that bad? Seriously!
Right now I just disabled my NOD32's web security and while the untrusted connection is a rare problem that i can't test right away, the problem with FIREFOX NOT DISPLAYING SH*T still remains.
How are you going to explain and blame NOD32 on that, my man?? :)
ALL OF MY YOUTUBE THUBMnails are Not visible, although the youtube website is accessible.
I suspect even the HTML5 in FIREFOX is screwed, since i can't play YouTube videos and we all know that videos are no longer in flash.
I really can't understand one thing. If a program is broken, why can't i just re-install it? Why can't i purge and really start anew?
DO I HAVE TO RE-INSTALL MY OPERATIONAL SYSTEM JUST BECAUSE FIREFOX coders CAN'T THINK OF A WAY TO EFFECTIVELY REMOVE FIREFOX?
Are you joking me? Is this 21st Century? The age of 3D and VIRTUAL REALITY?
I do not want to offend anyone, but this is just beyond words for me. A modern computer program cannot behave like so and still lack the proper basic elements of operation and management, such as a re-boot mechanism!
Good news is that at least by the day it gets easier to operate Chrome, as i see that FIREFOX probably has no future. I REALLY WANT TO GET BACK TO MY BABY firefox. I've used that browser since i have a PC, but it seems too complicated codes have been used in Mozilla company nowadays.

I'm going to post two replies.

Do you think there is a problem with the program files? That is rare, but corruption can happen. In that case here's what to do:
Clean Reinstall
We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.
It only take a few minutes.
(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 47.0.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.) For maximum plugin compatibility, choose the 32-bit version.
(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).
(C) Using Windows Explorer/My Computer, rename the program folder as follows:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox
(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.
Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:
- \OldFirefox\Plugins
- \OldFirefox\browser\plugins
Any improvement?
Clean Profile
Since you used Refresh, there's really no need to completely erase your settings, but if you want to test whether settings are the problem, you can create a new Firefox profile.
Type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load that page.
Click the "Create New Profile" button and assign a name like July2016. Ignore the button for changing the folder location and click Finish.
Next, scroll down and below the Profile: July2016 box, click the "Set as default profile" button.
Then scroll back to the top of the page and click the "Restart normally" button. This should exit Firefox and start Firefox up in that new profile.
Any improvement?
To return to your normal profile, use the about:profiles page to Set as default for that profile.

Firefox Crashed, and after restart it was totally RESET with NO add-ons, NO themes, only bookmarks.
The best explanation for that is that the Refresh feature ran. Losing your whole profile would not have preserved your bookmarks. Possibly not at your behest, possibly as part of a crash recovery.
You have three folders in your Old Firefox Data folder, two from the 27th dated two minutes apart, and one from the 26th. Do you think the one from the 26th could have your old profile data from just before the crash?
Regarding unstyled sites and missing content, could you revisit the Add-ons site and reload the page to check whether the problem continues:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/extensions/
The style sheets load from a different server. What if you try to following this URL:
https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/static/css/tabzilla/tabzilla.css
Does that generate a connection error page with an "Advanced" button? If so, please click the Advanced button to expand the technical explanation and copy/paste that into a reply.
The page might also have other features for diagnosing the problem. For example, there might be a button to copy certificate information, or an Add Exception button. What do you see?
Ok, so here's what happens to the addons page.
Also NEW PROFILE doesn't do shit (i switched it for default and restarted FireFox. I DO firmly believe it is corruption in the program, NOT settings issue.
The installation did the same as the new browser - same issues.
I have attatched to DRIVE the ONLY file from the 26 folder CRASHES in OLD FIREFOX:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0mgxSUvP8SXeHlDVnNfRUdnYWs
Despite no progress so far -- Thank you very much for the help and time invested in my problem!!

Regarding the uploaded file: I don't know how to open a .mozlz4 file (compressed), but whatever that is, it doesn't sound very relevant.
To better diagnose the certificate error, could you copy/paste the following to the address bar and press Enter to load it:
chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul
Paste https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/ into the Location and try "Get Certificate". If that works, click the View button and compare the Issued by and Certificate Path sections with the attached. Any discrepancy?

Hi again Mitizaro, OK you can now see that the ESET issued certificate is trying to be passed off as being valid for a mozilla site.
ESET's solution as linked from an article I liked to in my first post is explained in
Could you look at that and try to follow those instructions please.
OR Try to follow the instructions in jscher2000's alternative method earlier on in this question thread
- (2) Import the ESET signing certificate into Firefox #answer-901317
Guys i believe i made the solution. I just re-started the WEB CERTIFICATE SSL service and rebooted the PC.
Now Firefox displays all websites properly and allows me to install add-ons!
I apologize for my bad behaviour towards the Mozilla team, it seems it is mostly (if not all) ESET's fault this one.
Thank you VERY MUCH and i can't wait to de-install the Chrome.
I have additional question btw -- the only reason i have Chrome on my PC is that our website in the admin panel version, while i write an article and turn the page into the HTML coding (behind the scenes) -- the Firefox displays it as a whole un-seperated by lines text, wheres Chrome makes it tidy and arranges every new paragraph of code on a new line (making it 100 times more easy to navigate and edit).
Do you have any idea about that?
The bookmarks i imported from Chrome (Which got there from Mozilla) are in seperate folder -- how do i get them out of there and onto the menu like they used to be? They are 118 and i cant drag em one by one! Do you have any ideas here, guys?
I will test my Firefox for an hour and if everything is fine i will flag this question as SOLVED.

Next question is
- HTML while editing article in Admin Panel displays IN A SINGLE LINE (no structure)? /questions/1132785
Ändrad
It is probably best to post a separate question about your website coding. jscher2000 will probably give you an answer to that as well.
With your bookmarks there are two alternatives I can think of.
The first is go with what you have got and move them. I have no idea if they already have any structure such as separate folders, but you can select multiple bookmarks or multiple folders in the bookmarks Library and drag and drop them.
It is probably as simple as opening the google folder in the Library, selecting all and dragging all of them to the folder bookmarks menu.
The other method is to go back to the original source i.e one of the original profiles and try to get things back to how they were. HOWEVER this method will not work if all profiles were deleted or all Appdata removed. Try using about:profiles, as was mentioned earlier just key that in to the addressbar and press enter. Now see what profiles it finds, do not delete or rename any of them. In turn set different ones as default and restart Firefox then look at your bookmarks. One or more of the profiles may well load all your original bookmarks. This is a good method because it will also get back your browsing History, and even if you do not knowingly use that it way well improve your search and suggestion results. If the profile is good, (it may even have your addons) and if it works ok just continue using that as a default profile. If the proflile has problems but has good bookmarks then the file places.sqlite may be copied and pasted in to the profile you want to use,
- BUT please first of all take the precaution of renaming the existing file places.sqlite in the target profile that will otherwise be overwritten & call it places.sqlite.google just in case you need it again
- AND note it is easy to find profiles with Firefox open but you must make changes to profiles when Firefox is not running.
Note about:profiles lets you easily find and open Firefox profiles as it not only shows the path to them it also has a button to open the profile in a folder.
- Also glance at this article Recover important data from an old profile#w_bookmarks-downloads-and-browsing-history
There may be other options if you still have the old data folders.
