autocomplete isn't working on Mozilla, I see the shadow of the dropbox. I've done all the trouble shooting recommendations and nothing works. upgraded Mozilla to newest version, checked the history/privacy settings, cleared cache, updated Java.
Autocomplete worked this weekend and now it doesn't. I made no changes to my computer in that time. For instance, I can't fill in the below bar to say "this happened....." can't see the dropdowns..just a little flicker. problem is on mozilla and every program I open w/ Mozilla. Before contacting you I searched the forum, did all the suggested things noted above and nothing has fixed or even partially improved it.
I also have IE on my computer and it works fine.

Do a clean reinstall. If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
- Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
- Uninstall your current Firefox version.
- Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
- Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
It may not be necessary to create a new profile, so first try if it works with your current profile and if not then create a new profile.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
the suggestions did not work. I had already disabled the hardware acceleration before coming here. When I went into safemode the same problem was occuring, so I assume that means the issue was not with any add-ons.
I'm at a loss. Not only is autocomplete not working but I can use any dropboxes either on websites . I did nothing new to the computer for this to happen. I've just upgraded to the newest version of Firefox 7. something.. that didn't help either.
I mean drop down menus, not drop boxes.

i did everything you said and it's still a problem. And, if I need to use a drop down, like to pick the language for spybot, it won't keep or register what I pick. The only thing i did not do is to reinstall under a new profile. Just didn't want to go that trouble if that was simply to insure a safe reinstall.
