I installed this new Firefox 4 on my Windows 7 64-bit OS and now it doesn't even open.
This web browser has turned out to be the worst thing I've ever had to deal with on my computer. I upgraded my Firefox 3.6.2 which was amazing and my go-to web browser. Now after many re-installs I still can't get this new thing to open. I'm going to lose it soon. Good thing I saved my bookmarks before. When I click the .exe file, it shows in my task manager that it is running but no windows appear. I've restarted my machine and tried everything possible to get it to work. NOTHING.

Dear Firefox Staff
Your browser was yesterday pretty awesome. Now it blows. Stop messing up your own software.
Sincerely, Doctor Obviously

I have the same problem, same OS. Previous version of FF was running fine, tried to update to 4. Install went through without any errors or problems, then when I try to open the program nothing appears, no window, no error message. The program appears in the task manager "processes" tab using up about 29k of memory. It also shows as running in *32 bit compatibility mode. Is there a way to run it in 64 bit?
Further, the only addons I had (other than the usual Adobe/Flash stuff) was the Norton and Google toolbars.
Firefox 4 sucks. Why they screwed with it is a mystery
GOT IT!
Uninstall Firefox if you're still trying to fight with it. Make SURE you also choose to delete your personal folders and such. Go into C:\program files (x86)\ and DELETE the Mozilla folder. Just for kicks, double check the C:\program files\ directory as well. Now run the install and it worked (at least for me!).
Yes, you lose all your extensions and such, but it works.
Yup, it worked. The only thing I didn't do before was delete personal data. However, we shouldn't have had to go through this trouble especially when they've had around 10 beta releases. Also, people who didn't backup their bookmarks before are out of luck now. I think I'll just stick to Safari after this.
Thanks for the info airmanjack.
My firefox wasn't opening (windows 7 64bit), but was running in task manager, and was also using 50+% of my processor.
I'll try your trick tonight.
Firefox does open on my work computer, but I have problems with it crashing multiple times per day. Is there anywhere I can download the last version of Firefox 3?
Posting a reply here as well.
I have a fresh Windows 7 Pro 64bit install. Firefox 4 worked for a short time, until I installed Thunderbird and ever since Firefox has had issues. The process shows up in task manager but does not show up in the applications list.
I even tried downgrading to 3.6.16 and the same thing happens.
I just updated both Thunderbird and Firefox to the most recent versions and the problem still exists.
Please fix this so I can stop using Chrome which sucks more that this problem.
