What menu are you talking about?

Is that the menu bar with File, Edit,View and the others or the drop down menu that opens if you click the 3-bar Firefox menu button?

Is the menu bar visible? You can tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar

You can use one of these to set which toolbars to show.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • View > Toolbars
You can tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
  • Right-click empty toolbar area

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thank you for your prompt response, Cor-el!

I am referring to the 3-bar menu button at top right; I don't see any other menus.

I won't have access to my friend's laptop until next Thursday; at that time I will try your suggestions about making the other menus appear.

Software designers really need to make their interfaces more intuitive to users, IMO! Alt key, F10 with no prompts -- really!

At any rate, I will get back to you Thursday or after if I need more help. I was trying to add the refcontrol add-on so my friend could access a certain widely-read business journal that has a paywall...
