New junk tabs keep opening
I tried to go to about:config and reset browser.newtab.url but when I right clicked, reset was not highlighted and I could not select it.

Just for starters you might try disabling("Never activate") two of your plug-ins, one at a time, which seem to have caused occasional problems -
