You don't have to use Internet Explorer ......

In the header you ask if you can make Firefox your home page - yes, you can. See : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-set-the-home-page

As for exporting your contacts from AOL  : see Seburo's post.

In case you want to use Thunderbird as your email client :

Hi

Firefox is a web browser, through which you should be able to access your email on AOL. There should not be any need to import anything.
