Adblock not working

more options

I just installed Adblock today after a clean install of windows 7. I tried looking up a solution to end this problem but everything I do doesn't help at all. I made sure I have subscriptions available in the adblock preferences and I made sure I unchecked the let non intrusive ads go through. It is also not disabled so I have no idea what to do. If you can help I will be appreciative. Thanks!

Well I found out my problem, the filters did not install correctly at all. Thanks again for your reply though, I will remember that in the future.

There are many ad blocking extensions, so just to make sure:

Do you have Adblock Plus version 2.6.10 from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

If you do not get a quick reply, there is a specific forum for Adblock Plus support here: https://adblockplus.org/forum/

I noticed a recent thread there by a user infected with "ads by name" (that appears in the lower part of the screen). That infection embeds into Firefox's program folder and isn't cleaned by a Firefox Refresh. To remove that, you can use this method:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(1) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 39.0 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(3) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Are the ads eliminated?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins
