A couple of days ago, I did an update of Firefox and since then, no matter what website I go to, I have huge, flashing, distracting ads from both Google work from home and ads by Media Player, both malware. I managed to run a program that lessened the number of them on each page, but nothing has gotten rid of them all. Extremely annoying, is there anything you can do or suggest that might help? Also pages are loading very, very slowly.

Thank you so much for any help you can give.

Chosen solution

Adblock Plus {web link} Blocks annoying video ads on YouTube, Facebook ads, banners and much more. Adblock Plus blocks all annoying ads, and supports websites by not blocking unobtrusive ads by default (configurable).

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thank you FredMcD.

I got rid of the ads. Hopefully I will find a fix for the slow loading.

Thank you again.

Firefox whether by internal update or from mozilla.org for any OS does not come with any extras including what you encountered.

Some people take programs and create their own installers. While they may install the program you want, there may be no telling what else is being installed. Download only from trusted sites.
