if I have more than two browsers open, all functionality drops by 50 to 80% and as a result everything runs slow. I clear out my cache about once a month and that does not seem to help - what other suggestions are out there

So you are saying you have three or more browsers open and running continuously at the same time ?
Unless you have a high powered machine that sort of activity may be expected to have some impact on performance.
Do you mean two Firefox windows?
